Workers of hot rolling steel plants organized as Garam Rolla Mazdoor Ekta Samiti have been on strike from 6th june demanding payment of minimum wage, eight hours shifts, ESI and PF facilities, all government holidays and extra payment for overtime work. But after 20 days of strike when their demands were not met , a large protest demonstration was carried out at Jantar Mantar.
Under the banner of Garam Rolla Mazdoor Ekta Samiti A march of about 500 workers was carried out from Jantar Mantar to Sansad Marg, and there the workers gathered near Labour Ministry Department and carried their sabha peacefully. Addressing the gathering Sunny, a member of Garam Rolla Mazdoor Ekta Samiti said that we have been on strike since 6th june demanding our rights but instead of taking strict step against factory owners , the labour inspector is only playing a role of silent spectator. And it is therefore that, we are here at Jantar Mantar protesting and now we will not remain silent anymore to this exploitation. Shivani, the legal advisor of Samiti said that DLC, after hearing the news of protest demonstration at Jantar Mantar, is now under pressure and that it is our unity which has brought us this close to our victory.
Various organizations such as Bigul Mazdoor Dasta, Pragtishil Cement Sangh , Karawal Nagar Mazdor Union also joined the protest march. Lata, from Bigul Mazdor Dasta said that workers must carry out their strike till the demands are not met and that Bigul Mazdor Dasta will support them and whatever financial help is needed we will contribute for it.
Then a delegation of 5 people submitted the memorandum in PM Office and Labour Ministry Department.
The protest finished with Raghuraj addressing workers that memorandum has been received by Labour Ministry and we will continue our strike in the Raja Park until our demands are met.
