Workers gherao the DLC office, the labour department issues notice against the owners for not implementing the agreement
Today in the morning, 8 owners of A-102/6 factory in Wazirpur held some workers hostage with the help of local goons and tried to forcibly get the work done after which the workers surrounded the factory. The owners in collusion with the police planned for lathi-charge and a huge police force arrived there. But they could not do so due to the pressure from the democratic rights activists and labour activists from throughout the country. A petition will be filed tomorrow in the High Court against the Delhi Police which openly colluded with them and took their side.
After this, the workers took out a huge rally in the entire area and did a gherao of the labour department office at Nimri. Owing to the huge pressure by the workers, the labour department ultimately agreed to take action against the workers. A show cause notice has been issued to the owners who have not started the work as per the agreement dated June 27. They have been asked in the notice to give their final clarification for the violation of the industrial dispute act. They have been asked to respond by July 7, 11 am failing which action will be taken against them as per the section 29 of the Industrial Dispute Act.
Shivani from Garam Rolla Mazdoor Samiti told that an application will be filed in the labour department against all the owners reporting the unfair labour practices and for taking action as also for payment of minimum wages with arrears for the entire period and along with that the Chief Inspector of Factories will be asked to check the status of the implementation of the labour laws in the entire industry. An FIR will also be lodged against the owners of the factory at A-102/6 for taking workers hostage and forcibly getting the work done.
The workers continued the dharna at the DLC office till the day end with full enthusiasm and decided to assemble tomorrow morning at the same spot and continue the dharna.
